NHA History
NHA has a long history of serving the Toledo community, with roots dating back several decades. One notable part of their history is the Mildred Bayer Clinic for the Homeless, which has been providing clinical services to the homeless population since 1984. In 2016, the clinic expanded its services after becoming part of NHA, moving to a new location to offer additional support such as personal hygiene kits, clothing, and shower facilities. This clinic exemplifies NHA’s commitment to serving vulnerable populations, offering services like adult primary care, HIV testing, flu shots, dental care, and vision services, all regardless of ability to pay.
Over the years, NHA has grown to become a trusted healthcare provider in Northwest Ohio, partnering with organizations like the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers, Prevent Blindness Ohio, and local entities such as the Area Office on Aging and Lucas County Children Services. They have been recognized for improving health outcomes, such as hypertension control, and have presented their strategies at state-level meetings to share best practices with other community health centers.
NHA’s involvement in community initiatives, such as resource workshops for grandparents, educational programs like CPR and Narcan training in schools, and partnerships for hygiene drives, demonstrates their ongoing commitment to public health education and community engagement. Their recognition by Toledo City Council and national health organizations highlights their impact and leadership in healthcare delivery in the region.
